Remote monitoring of seabirds – Ilhéu da Vila, Santa Maria Island
Amberjack has developed, for the Department of Oceanography and Fisheries of the University of the Azores, a remote monitoring project for seabirds on Ilhéu da Vila, Santa Maria Island.
This project aims to provide information on the activity levels and presence of certain species of seabirds that nest on this islet.
To this end, PIR sensors were installed at the entrance of some nests. These sensors will monitor the activity and presence of the birds, with a 3-second resolution.
The readings are transmitted by our dataloggers, Ambercounter model, via a LoRa network to a gateway installed on Santa Maria Island, which redirects them, in real time, to our cloud – Ambercloud.
In the future, RFID readers will be installed at the entrance of the nests to read the RFID tags placed on the birds.
